Beauty and Wellness Business Books Cleanup The card fee does not automatically stay with product
The register printed a receipt with three lines and one fee under them. Dumping every processor fee onto retail makes the service look richer than it was.
Bring the batchThe fee follows the charges you can see
The slug of this page is the habit we keep meeting. Someone parks the entire processor fee on the product account, every month, no matter what the batch contained. The bottle then looks expensive and the service looks clean. The week was usually the other way around. Services were most of the batch. Product was a jar or two. The fee belonged mostly to the services.
When a batch is only product, the fee can sit with product. When a batch is only services, the fee sits with services. When the processor gives you one fee for a mix of services, product, and tips, that fee stays one merchant-fee expense until the report actually splits. We do not invent percentages to make the product line absorb a number the report did not separate.
Tips and the fee
A tip inside a card batch is not a sale, and the fee on that portion is not a product cost. If you cannot see the portion, do not assign it. The deposit will be smaller than the tickets by the fee. That difference is the fee. It is not missing income, and it is not a retail loss.
The shape of a week with the dollars left blank is on the blank shape. Read the fee as its own row there, not as a smear on the bottle.
