Beauty and Wellness Business Books Cleanup Product reaches the return only if the books kept it
The owner asked why the return still shows one sales number after a year of shelf bottles. A return cannot discover a retail line the deposits never had.
Bring the salesThe return follows the year you already recorded
Retail sales and service sales are both income. They tell different stories about the year. Product cost belongs against product sales. The cost of color you opened at the bowl belongs against the service, or in supplies, under the rule you picked and kept. If every dollar was booked as "sales" and every purchase as "supplies," the return has one sales number. Inventing a product split on the return, with no tickets behind it, is how a cost-of-goods figure appears from nowhere.
We would rather show one honest sales total than two precise-looking totals that the register cannot support. If you want the split next year, change the register now and keep it. The months already closed stay as they were closed.
Cost of goods is not the opened bowl
Cost of goods is the cost of product you sold intact. Product opened during a service is not goods sold. Calling both "cost of goods" makes retail look hungry and services look free of product. The bowl page keeps that distinction, at the bottle.
A card fee does not create the split either. If you cannot see which charges were product, you cannot assign the fee to product and call the rest a clean service. That mistake has its own page, the card fee.
